Ten Key Features of the AEGIS Character
Education Program
1.
Teaches Universal Principles and Ethical
Standards that are in harmony with our
constitutional heritage. Worth & Potential, Rights & Responsibilities,
Fairness & Justice, Care & Consideration, Effort & Excellence, Social
Responsibility, and Personal Integrity - taught clearly, directly, and
without apology.
2. Goes beyond
Philosophy. Provides a practical tool
for teaching character education. Effective, concrete, and affordable.
Teachers start teaching without a large investment in training, time, and
money.
3.
Integrates with Core Subjects.
While often taught as a separate course, AEGIS is also designed to blend
with the core curriculum and to fit with all of the basic academic subjects.
4. Builds on
Prior Evaluation. Proven effective in
field tests; produces significant reduction of negative behavior and
significant increase in positive behavior.
5. Teacher
Friendly. "In hand" materials,
stories, lesson plans, games, and activities that reduce preparation time
and training requirements. Written in partnership with teachers, for
teachers.
6. Actively
Engages Students. Students
participate willingly, get actively involved, and look forward to the
lessons. Creates a strong sense of community in the classroom and in
the school.
7. Employs an
Effective Teaching/Learning Model.
Five step teaching/learning models build the important components of
learning step-by-step. Includes modeling, practicing, and application
in real life. Incorporates the students' cognitive, affective, and
behavioral dimensions.
8. Comprehensive
Content. Covers the basic seven
principles mentioned in number one, connecting these elements to form a
whole. Students understand the relationship between these elements and
apply them to real life situations. They are taught throughout the
school year, and in all grades.
9.
Systematic Approach.
Five lessons in each unit are tied to the core concept of the unit, build on
the previous grade, and are linked and integrated with the other basic
concepts.
10. Directly
Involves Parents. Parents emphasize
and reinforce the values and goals of the family while working in concert
with teachers. The parent-teacher partnership is a consistent
emphasis.
