Students must have a positive, ethical sense of self in order to withstand
the barrage of contradictory
and destructive trends they will
face. To become educated is not enough. Students must be
educated
in a manner which includes
building strong character and creating involved, moral citizens.
Creating
good citizens takes more than
accumulating knowledge. As stated by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, "It is not
brains that matter most, but
that which guides them."
This necessary education cannot be haphazard, superficial, or incidental.
A conscious, careful, and
complete effort is required to overcome the barrage of negative forces
facing young people in society.
Band-aides will not cure cancer, and quick fixes will not refurbish ethical
wastelands. The AEGIS
Character Education program offers an efficient, research-based model for
equipping students with the
moral principles and ethical standards that will help them to understand,
value, and commit to positive
principles.
